In Memorium

It was with sadness that we heard of the death of Stella A. Zielinski, mother of long time member, David Zielinski. She died December 15, 2002, We offer our condolences to David and his family.
"And if I go
While you're still here
Know that I live on,
Vibrating to a different measure
behind a veil we cannot see through.
You will not see me
So you must have faith.
I wait for the time when we can soar together again,
-- both aware of each other.
Until then, live your life to its fullest and when you need me
Just whisper my name in your heart
--- I will be there".

NYC College of Technology graduate Students in
Spring 2003

NYC College of Technology plan to graduate about 25 students this coming spring. The dental technology degree course covers all aspects of dental technology disciplines that include morphology, ceramics, C&B, complete and partial dentures, and orthodontics as well as principles of occlusion. The college states that all  students graduate with a strong foundational  knowledge of all procedures of technology. During training, they attend lectures in theory and hands-on applications in laboratory settings. Prof. Philip Russo said the combination produces students that are educationally well rounded, and adapt quickly to the commercial dental laboratory environment. "As a result" he continues, "the department consistently experience 100% job placement rating".  If any LIDLA member lab anticipates a hiring need for these entry level graduates, or need more information, call

Getting quick treatment in Heart Attacks is vital

An 'up-dated" checklist is published on symptoms of Heart attack and Strokes.
We thought you might to have it.

Signs of a Heart Attack:
*Moderate to severe chest discomfort, a squeezing sensation, heavy pressure on the chest, fullness, heaviness of pain.

*Pain in one or both arms, neck, jaw, or stomach.

*Shortness of breath.
[Continued next column]
*Breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea, and/or light-
headedness [women seem to experience a heart attack's milder symptoms first] which may explain their high mortality rate.

*Cardiac arrest, loss of consciousness.
Stroke:  Known as a "brain attack" is sudden disturbance of blood flow in the brain, usually due to a clot in a cerebral artery.
Some sudden on-set signs are:
*Weakness or numbness on one side of the body.

*Loss of vision or blurred sight in one or both eyes.

*Confusion, speech impairment, or difficulty understanding speech.

*Sudden, severe headache with no known cause.

*Dizziness, loss of balance or coordination.

Blood Pressure: A normal healthy BP hovers around 120/80., the higher number reflecting peak pressure whey the heart contracts [systolic], and the lower number measuring pressure when the heart relaxes [diastolic].  Actual cause of high BP is unknown in 95% of cases.
However, many factors can elevate BP such as: obesity, high alcohol use, high salt intake, aging and perhaps sedentary lifestyle, stress, low potassium intake and low calcium intake.
