50 Japanese Dental Technologists
Visit NYCTC |
50 Japanese Dental Technicians, faculty and students from Higashiomiya, Japan visited the Dental Laboratory Technology Department at New York City Technical College. Members of the group included Kideki Sake, DDS, president, Masami lkeda, chief of general affairs and Youichi Yamaga, executive director. Of all Dental Laboratory Technology programs in the USA, City Tech was chosen due to its reputation of being one of the leading Lab. Technology programs in the nation. The daylong event featured a reception, a greeting from City Tech President F. Beaufait, Provost J. LaPeria and Prof. N. Manos, Department Chair.
The group visited the laboratory facilities. Each instructor (Professors L. Araneo, V. Ragaini, and A, Sena) conducted demonstrations on techniques ranging from ceramic restorations, to occlusal development, to light cured fabrication techniques. As the formal program continued, students from City Tech found ways to communicate with their fellow technicians from Japan. The guests had numerous questions concerning dentistry in the US. vs. Japan. Professor's C. Frith, P. Russo and N. Manos escorted the groups through the day's activities. By conclusion, both groups developed an appreciation for each others techniques and philosophy on the profession and education. "This is but one more example of how well known City Tech is outside of our immediate area" said Prof Manos.
