Message from President, Tony Fescina, CDT.

As we begin 2001, the second year of a new Millennium, we all have hopes, and intention, that our businesses will be profitable and successful, and, hopefully, less stressful than in some years past.

We all work hard, long hard hours and, yes, have paid dearly for all the efforts we have made. Notwithstanding this, sometimes it becomes difficult to retain a positive attitude about our profession. So often fear has taken over and we have unreasonably given in to our accounts, ignoring logic and the weakness such actions reflect. Believe me, from my own experiences with dentists over the past few years, the way we do not want to lose an account, neither does the dentist; he likes what we create and does not want to try a new lab.

My friends and colleagues, we LIDLA members are good at what we do, and yet there are times when we feel frustrated and defeated. Wouldn't it be good to have someone to turn to for input during those depressing moments - moments whenever and whatever we try, or what we do, the case just isn't what the dentist has in mind, being human, it is difficult for us to step forward to ask for help. We are a proud profession and know how competent we are. I am proposing, for our main 2001 resolution, that we put aside our pride, and reach out to the talent and experience right here in our LIDLA membership - call our peers, outline our problem, and ask for a different point of view.

Being in the profession for over 30-years, there are still moments when I get one of those "migraine headache cases"!

When this happens, calling a few colleagues for input is all it takes to solve the problem and move on. Helping one another, being there for those tough moments, having someone you can trust, to share the "migraine" when things get stressful is what LIDLA has always been in the past and it's time we 'un-invented the wheel' as it were. It is said that one cannot go back. True in some situations - no one has the answers all the time - but LIDLA members as a group, can go back to what was so successful in years of yore - a unified association. We have the knowledge and strength that any one of us can tap into in moments of uncertainty. Some of what I write has been shared with my by members. The rest from management seminars available to all of us.

In my next message, I want to talk to you about prices. Friends, we must be paid fairly for the confidence our dentists have in our ability to always provide optimum quality service.

In 2001, as always, LIDLA will continue to provide knowledge through clinics. The one scheduled for February 15, 200l will be our first opportunity in the New Year for members to network at the dinner prior to the presentation. This would a good time to talk about your needs from the association and how we can meet those needs for ourselves and other members.
